Open Ship Art Segmented Or What Some Would Call A Fancy Wooden Bowl
This wooden ship is made of American black walnut. Native to the west coast and ca (where this piece was obtained), it is dense and beautiful hardwood. The segmenting allows a huge flexibility in the size of the ship that many layers are used and each layer is made of many parts that are precisely cut to form a ring of the appropriate size that the design requires. In this case, the vessel measures about 5 1/4" height x 8 1/4" width with a figurative bottom and segments oriented in a offset but homogeneous brick pattern to highlight the grain and give a subtle but beautiful variety of perspectives when seen at different angles from inside or outside. The finish is a penetrating Danish oil that is rubbed by hand and polished with a natural blend of carnuba and beeswax with a satin chandelier that defends itself against changes in humidity, as well as resist fingerprints and push dust. It can be cleaned with a polishing cloth and waxed as desired. The transformed vessels of all kinds, shapes and sizes are my art that I have sold to customers around the world.
In addition, I design and build a wide variety of custom furniture, caswork, and articles in mixed mode from my twist shop, mainly by reference, but take advantage of inquiries.
